BOSTON: Only those of us who ride scooters in the city know the freedom and exhilaration one gets from these simple machines.
Nothing can get you through the city faster, unless it has a siren, no circling for 2o minutes to find parking, front row parking where every you go, most times we can park on the sidewalk right in front of the door to the establishment we are patronizing. $10, $20, $39 (the New England Aquarium), to park? Feeding quarters into meters? $25 - $75 parking tickets? All a thing of the past! Traffic Jams? Hahahaha!
The Bloody Knuckles Scooter Society will meet on the first Saturday of each month between May and October at a location to be determained. The BKSS is to get like minded people together, hang out, exchange ideas, network and maybe get involved with some politics if need be to protect or expand any interests we might have, such as the unreasonable 25 mph speed limit currently imposed on our machines. I'd like to put together a lobbying campaign to legally raise this to 34 or 40 mph, for public safety reasons. We need to be able to keep up with the flow of traffic and have the ability to quickly dodge or get away from some of these drivers that are oblivious to what is around them.
I've been looking for a location for a coffee shop, somewhere centrally located downtown with good foot traffic out front and back door access to a court yard or alley in the back for scooters to park. Decorate the back area of the place with scooter photos and paraphinallia, just to have a place to hang out or hold some meetings at.
Right now I only know of one other scooter club in Boston, but it appears to be reserved for only vintage Vespa owners. I want this club to be representative of all of us 49.5 cc (and under) riders in the city.
I'd like to use this blog to set up some rides, congregate at some cool places. Some decent destinations I've found so far are some coffee shops over on Hanover street in the North End a treat that is otherwise often inaccessible due to the very limited parking in that neighborhood. As well as I found a great Saturday afternoon burger place over on Commonwealth Ave called Harry's bar & grill, located at the bottom of the big hill and big bend on Comm Ave. Central Square over in Cambridge has also been a favorite destination of mine as well with the singer song writers series on Sundays at All Asia and of course there is the first rate entertainment at the Middle East. There are probably a million equally cool places to hang in Boston that would appeal to us, and we could probably find a few establishment that would specifically cater to us.
